The blog Not My Naseeb swept Facebook this past Sunday. The author shares excerpts from messages she receives on matrimonial sites. Simple concept, but totally cracks me up when I get the blog post in my e-mail every morning.
She also takes reader submissions – check it out!

Its a cute site and I was on board until the “Hi I’m a desperate white guy” post- hm…. smacks too much of not authentic. It may be. but. . . meh. Anyways, its a cute concept though

Interesting! Reminds me of the now defunct captain chaos blog… always fun to read this type of stuff!

hi Aisha, all the posts on the site are actual messages received (either by myself or friends). Some of them seem too crazy to be true, but unfortunately, they are. The desperate white guy really reached out to me and his profile seemed legit in every other way, which is why I posted that message….don’t know if it was a fake profile or not, but this is what’s out there and waiting for us singletons!

NotmyNaseeb- thanks for clarifying- I’ve read enough “Horizons” magazine matrimonial ads back before the internet was g all the rage to know that there are some interesting folks out there, lol. But I was just shocked at the white guy one. I guess reality is just crazier than fiction, good luck with your blog!

Salaams friends!
Aisha & Mezba – Glad you enjoyed the blog! It’s funny AND uncovers some pretty serious dysfunction in the online courtship rituals of Muslims.
NMN – I love your blog & want to thank you for posting these insights into matrimonial websites and courtship/gender/sexual dynamics in the Muslim community.
While I do know of some women who met their partners online and are quite happy, many other women continue to wade through spam messages daily. They also receive authentic offers asking them to join the male in (a usually secret) second marriage, a marriage to help the man get a green card, a marriage as a cover for the man’s other relationship with his girlfriend (or boyfriend), a marriage to a ‘good Muslim girl’ even though the man himself is no longer Muslim just to please his family, etc.
I like the way you use humor to open up the discussion around a serious subject. And I can tell you that it has started exactly those type of conversations among my friends.
Warmly,
Baraka
