My father reminiscences about diving into the Lahore Canal as a child with his brothers as a way to cool off during summer’s intense heat. This photo reminded me of that.

Awesome! I guess your dad and his brothers learnt to swim on their own? No expensive weekly swimming lessons!

This are water buffalo or ‘Bhains’ as known in India, but they are not cows for sure.

Salaams,
So glad you all enjoyed the photo – it made me want to take the plunge too!
And, Sam is absolutely correct. I copied the original photo caption from the SF Chronicle but that is indeed a water buffalo.

Salaams,
Mezba & Specs: They scared me as a kid too but they’re quite gentle. My cousins used to jump over them if they were lying on the path home & the buffalo never batted an eye, or twitched a horn.
LF: Bilqul seyhi kaha aap ney!
Mystic: Thank you, That’s quite a prevalent problem amongst Muslims. A cousin of mine got divorced for similar issues.
Saffiyah & TGW: Glad you enjoyed it! It really is a joyous photo
Warmly,
Baraka
