Established in 1971, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) makes me wish I had followed in my father’s footsteps and become a doctor.

MSF is an independent, international medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid in more than 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters.

At the end of each day as I break my fast with bountiful meals, I am haunted by photos of Haiti, where people have been devastated by multiple hurricanes and storms, destroying homes, contaminating fresh water, and forcing people to survive on “dirt cakes” – small cakes of mud and grass eaten because there is no food available. MSF is there right now providing aid to those in need.

Please remember the people of Haiti in your prayers, click the vote button above to support MSF, and also donate if you can.

MSF will also be hosting a free exhibit called A Refugee Camp in the Heart of the City in San Francisco from October 15-19th. More information, here.

Chalin Sejour, 28, sits in front of her destroyed house with her belongs covered in mud in Gonaives, Haiti. Long after the floodwaters from three hurricanes and a tropical storm have receded from Haiti’s mud-caked streets, new bodies are still showing up every day.
