The Empire State Building, that is.
I spoke with an NYC-based American Muslim community activist this morning who informed me that their multi-year campaign to persuade the city’s authorities to light up the building in honor of Eid has finally succeeded and the building will go green on Friday evening!
The building is already lit in honor of Christmas, Hanukkah and other holidays, so this move is a testament to the growing and integrated community of seven million Muslims in the US.
Yahoo News is also covering the story. If anyone in NYC takes a photo of it please let me know as I would love to see it.

Ha, I just saw this news and have been emailing half my acquaintance with a reaffirmed I-heart-New-York. Not only for what this means as a symbol of respect, inclusion, and solidarity, but because (I must admit) I’m pleased to think of all the nativist assholes who’ll be pissed off by the gesture.
I’ll snap a photo this weekend and send it your-ways.
