What an amazing post. You took me from amused-and-appalled (by the person who equated Gaza with Pakistan) to teary-eyed with my heart in my throat. Thank you for this reminder of how precious our lives are, flawed though they may be.

This was one of the most powerful and honest blogs you've written yet. I won't comment on the personal nature of it because I've already done that with you directly. But I feel that you deserve a major kudo for the emotion and clarity with which you shared your experience. Keep your writing hot (and your temper cool)!

Re: the politeness - my editor told me a joke once. A woman (desi, ethnicity suitably chosen for effect, in this case Karachi-dwelling) is in labor, about to deliver twins. Many hours go by but the babies fail to emerge. Finally, the father asks the doctor in frustration about what's going on. He replies (wish I coould get the language right): these babies keep quibbling with each other "pehle aap, nahi huzoor, pehle aap..."

May you have easy of well-being. Remember, You have no place to get to, you are already *there* (A Wonderful Being of Infinite Light & Possibilities.) Continue Cultivating Equanimity (Equal Vision & Self-Compassion). One of my teachers often reminds me to take a deep breath and release with a gentle sighing of "Haaaahhh...." as you exhale. It has replaced many of my Arrghh*&*@^! exhales! Love you so much.
--E
